چکیده

retrofitting structures is an important issue. structural weakness may be due to changes in design codes or defects in implementation. adding structural floors to the existing structures may also lead to the need for strengthening and retrofitting. retrofitting is possible before the earthquake or may take place as rehabilitation of damaged members after earthquake. elements such as columns in buildings are vulnerable to earthquakes. increasing the ductility and load bearing capacity of reinforced concrete columns can be effective in strengthening the entire structures. in recent years several methods for repairing or strengthening the columns have been presented and several theories have been proposed about increasing their load bearing capacity. one of these methods is using reinforced concerte or steel profile jacketing technique. retrofitting methods also should be applicable and cost effective. this method of retrofitting on weak or damaged columns improves the axial and shear load bearing capacity and increases the ductility. in this research 12 column specimens in small scales were prepared in laboratory and retrofitted using jacketing technique. load bearing capacity of the specimens before and after retrofitting were calculated and compared. finally advantages and disadvantages of this method were investigated using experimental test results.

Seismic Behavior of Steel Reinforced Concrete Beam-Columns and Frames

The ability to perform accurate nonlinear simulations is a key component in the assessment of the behavior of seismic force resisting systems. A three-dimensional distributed plasticity formulation for composite beam-columns suitable for nonlinear static and dynamic analyses of composite seismic force resisting systems has been developed. New uniaxial constitutive relations are developed for th...

Rehabilitation of Reinforced Concrete Columns

In recent years, rehabilitation has been the subject of extensive research due to increased spending on building work and repair of built works. In all cases, it is absolutely essential to carry out methods of strengthening or repair of structural elements, and that following an inspection analysis and methodology of a correct diagnosis. The reinforced concrete columns are important elements in...

Retrofitting of Reinforced Concrete Beams with Steel Fiber Reinforced Composite Jackets

In the present study, a new method for retrofitting reinforced concrete beam is introduced in which steel-concrete composite jackets containing steel fiber is used. For this purpose, 75% of the peripheral surface of reinforced concrete beams was initially reinforced using steel plates and bolts, and steel fiber reinforced concrete was used between the steel plates and the peripheral surfaces of...

Seismic Response of Reinforced Concrete Columns

There are a large number of reinforced concrete buildings in seismically active areas of the world that are not built in accordance with modern seismic design provisions such as those published by American Concrete Institution ([ACI] Committee 318, 2008). In the United States and other parts of the developed world, these buildings were constructed between 1930s to mid 1970s according to the bui...

Reinforced Concrete Columns in Torsion (RESEARCH NOTE).

ACT does not suggest any regulations for columns under torsion. However, by all means, the number of such columns used in steel and concrete structures is abundant. In this paper, using the results of laboratory tests on 35 square and rectangular columns with intermediate slender ratios, relations for determination of torsional strengths of reinforced concrete under axial compression have been ...

Dynamic and Static Behavior of Hollow-Core FRP-Concrete-Steel and Reinforced Concrete Bridge Columns under Vehicle Collision

This paper presents the difference in behavior between hollow-core fiber reinforced polymer-concrete-steel (HC-FCS) columns and conventional reinforced concrete (RC) columns under vehicle collision in terms of dynamic and static forces. The HC-FCS column consisted of an outer FRP tube, an inner steel tube, and a concrete shell sandwiched between the two tubes. The steel tube was hollow inside a...
